Appointment of New Deputy Chief

The York Regional Police Services Board is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Deputy Chief for York Regional Police. Superintendent Kevin McCloskey has been selected by the Police Services Board to fill the role due to the pending retirement of Deputy Chief Robertson Rouse in June of 2023. Superintendent McCloskey will assume the role on June 1, 2023.
“Deputy Chief Designate McCloskey is a strategic and innovative leader in the policing community and has taken on many important operational and administrative leadership roles over the course of his career with York Regional Police,” said Board Chair Wayne Emmerson. “We look forward to his many successes as Deputy Chief.”
“I am looking forward to welcoming Deputy Chief Designate McCloskey to our Executive Leadership Team” said Chief Jim MacSween. “His extensive policing experience with a proven track record of team building, leadership development, and community engagement will serve our organization and our community well.”
Deputy Chief Designate McCloskey has 24 years of policing experience, including as a commander in Professional Standards and Corporate Development. He has extensive investigative experience having spent nearly a decade working in the Homicide and Intelligence Units.
He has a strong foundation in change management projects that include collaboration, policing partnerships and member and community engagement. He is a values-based leader and currently leads the Training and Education, Professional Development and Recruiting Units of York Regional Police.
Deputy Chief Designate McCloskey is an advocate of People First leadership that empowers others to lead. He demonstrates humility and shows vision and strategy.
He holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree from York University.
Deputy Chief Designate McCloskey has volunteered his time with 360 kids and Inn from the Cold and is a strong advocate for our Holiday Heroes program that serves thousands of families during the holiday season in York Region.

The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board is a seven-member civilian Board that oversees the York Regional Police and is comprised of one member as Head of Municipal Council, three members are appointed by resolution of Regional Council and three by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
