Appointment Extension of Deputy Chief of Police

The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board is very pleased to announce that it has extended the appointment of Deputy Chief Robertson Rouse for a further two years. Deputy Chief Rouse will continue to provide strong support and mentorship to the future leadership at York Regional Police. “The Police Services Board is very pleased that Deputy Chief Rouse has accepted the contract extension. Deputy Chief Rouse is an invaluable member of the executive command team and provides many years of experience, substantial knowledge and strong leadership to the Service,” said Board Chair Maurizio Bevilacqua.
Deputy Chief Rouse is a 34-year veteran with York Regional Police and has held the position of Deputy Chief of Police since September 2018. He began his career with York Regional Police in 1987 and has vast experience as the officer-in-charge of significant operational areas of the organization such as #5 District in Markham, Sexual Assault, Child Abuse, Domestic Violence and many other areas.
“I am honoured to continue to serve in driving the Vision of York Regional Police in making a difference in our community. I look at the horizon with great optimism for social justice work that has begun in policing,” said Deputy Chief Rouse.
As Deputy Chief of Police of Operations, he will continue to support enhanced leadership, strategic focus, timely communications and risk mitigation which will provide for stronger oversight of key policing areas of the organization and will support growth and manage future trends and complexities of a modern policing organization.
“Deputy Chief Rouse brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion to the role of Deputy Chief and provides sound guidance and advice to our members. His sound judgment and leadership will be key to our success in the coming years as we continue to build an equitable and inclusive police service that serves the needs of our diverse and ever-changing community. We are extremely lucky to have him continue in his role as Deputy Chief for York Regional Police," said Chief Jim MacSween.
The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board is the civilian board which governs and oversees the York Regional Police. Four members of the Board are appointed by Regional Council and three by the Province of Ontario. One of the responsibilities of the Board is to recruit and appoint the Chief of Police and the Deputy Chief of Police.
