Walter J. Perchal
Provincial Appointee
Walter Perchal was appointed to the Regional Municipality of York Police Service Board by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario for a three-year term commencing March 7, 2020. The Province has extended Mr. Perchal's appointment multiple times during his tenure, with his most recent reappointment effective March 23, 2025, for a one-year term.
In 2022, Mr. Perchal completed the Diversity and Inclusion certificate from Cornell University.
He previously served as a Senior Officer in the Canadian Forces. During his term of service, he completed a broad range of duties. Among these, he was Commanding Officer of The Royal Regiment of Canada, was later appointed as Special Advisor to the Canadian Army Commander, and also served as Senior Military Advisor to a NATO Ally overseas.
He has also been a long-standing Faculty member at York University. There he has taught a broad range of courses in various departments including both the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies and the Schulich School of Business. His current areas of academic engagement include: International Security, Complex Crises in Disaster and Emergency Management, Public Safety, CBRN Threats, Terrorism, and, Human Rights.
Additionally, he is engaged in an international consultancy working with transformative leading edge technologies. Finally, he is actively engaged in various community based organizations and activities.
