Police Services Board Welcomes New Member

The York Regional Police Services Board welcomed its newest member, Mr. Walter J. Perchal. Mr. Perchal was appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario for a three-year term commencing on March 7, 2020.
“I am very pleased to welcome Mr. Perchal to our police services board, and we look forward to working together on ensuring good governance and safe communities in York Region,” said Chair Virginia Hackson.
Walter Perchal served as a Senior Officer in the Canadian Forces for many years. During the course of his service he completed a broad range of duties. Among these he was Commanding Officer of The Royal Regiment of Canada, was subsequently appointed as Special Advisor to the Canadian Army Commander, and, also served as a Senior Military Advisor to a NATO Ally overseas.
Currently, he teaches a range of courses at York University where he was a founding faculty member of the Graduate Program in Disaster and Emergency Management. Presently, he is the Director of the Centre of Excellence in Security, Resilience, and, Intelligence at the Schulich School of Business. His areas of expertise include: International Security, Complex Crisis Management, Public Safety, Terrorism and CBRN threats.
Additionally, he is engaged in an international consultancy and leading-edge technology companies. Finally he is also actively engaged in various community-based activities.
The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board is a seven-member civilian Board that oversees the York Regional Police and is comprised of one member as Head of Municipal Council, three members are appointed by resolution of Regional Council and three by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
